What are misted windows?

Misting occurs in double glazed or triple glazed windows when the bonding compound used to join each pane of glass to the spacer bar in-between has deteriorated or failed. This is very common and is immediately evident if you notice moisture beading on the glass that you cannot wipe off from either side of your window. More likely to occur on the sunniest façade or in south facing conservatories and porches due to greater temperature fluctuations.

Unsightly from both sides

Not only is misting unsightly when viewed from outside of your property, more importantly it can spoil the view from inside. If left unchecked the moisture will build up inside the window and deposit scale and grime quickly leading to a fully obscured window and a noticeable reduction in light penetrating into the room.

Moisture will continue to collect and pool inside the window, filling it like a water trap. We have encountered units that have accrued internal water 3 inches deep!

Reduced efficiency all around

As well as the obvious visibility issues, the less obvious efficiency penalties are costing you.  The moment a sealed double glazed or triple glazed window has started to mist up it is no longer sealed.  This means you no longer have the thermal insulation or the sound reduction properties of a fully functioning window.
